Judah Christian Center was founded on Easter Sunday, April 11, 2004 by Elders Marvin E. and Veda A. McCoy. The first service was held at the Best Western Hotel, 5910 Princess Garden Parkway, Lanham, Maryland with over 200 supporters in attendance. With the blessing and covering of Bishop Alfred A. Owens, his spiritual father and pastor of over eighteen years, Elder Marvin E. McCoy established Judah Christian Center as an affiliate church of The Mt. Calvary Holy Churches of America, under the leadership of Presiding Prelate Bishop Harold I. Williams.
Adopting the church theme of Great Word, Great Worship and Great Work, Elders Marvin and Veda McCoy, along with their children Marvin Myer and Johntae Marvyce and charter-member Minister Bobby Dunmore, embarked upon this God-ordained destiny with the intent and purpose of Training Disciples and Advancing the Kingdom.
After many years in the ministry as a music minister, Elder Marvin E. McCoy obeyed the voice of God to plant a church in the area of Bowie, Maryland to serve that community and those in the surrounding neighborhoods. To implement this work, Elder Marvin formed Judah Christian Center’s Ministry Inception Cohort Group consisting of long-time ministry colleagues and friends. The “MICG” assisted with the foundation plans of the ministry, focusing mainly on planning the first service and serving the ministry during its first six months of existence. The MICG consisted of Elder Vikki Johnson, Mr. Trent Bishop, Sr., Mrs. Bonita Bishop, Ministers Carl and Lisa Jackson, Minister Bob V. Dunmore, Deacon William Cannady, Deacon Morris Heard, Mrs. Debra Heard, Minister Kevin Wilkins, Mrs. Valerie Wilkins, Mr. Nigel Pierce, Mrs. Joanne Pierce, Mr. Rodney Cole and Mrs. Degeta Cole.
The Lord added to the church early in the ministry, causing it to move from bi-weekly services to weekly services after merely three months. After one year, God blessed Judah Christian Center to move to 1453 Howard Road, SE, Washington, DC. In November 2006, God permitted the church to completely renovate and occupy its current facility in Suitland, Maryland God is continuing to add members and committed workers to the church as the work of the Lord continues to flourish under Pastor Marvin McCoy’s capable and anointed leadership.
Judah Christian Center strives to fulfill its mission of providing outreach and community service to its target area. This includes inspiring and uplifting worship services, community outreach and evangelism, youth ministry, children’s activities, emergency financial assistance, counsel and guidance and more. To date, the church has faithfully engaged in all of these.
The vision continues to grow and unfold for the powerful branch of Christ’s church and they engage in the process of Training Disciples and Advancing the Kingdom.
